Xtravirt Whitepaper – An Introduction to VMware Plug-ins

May 26, 2009

VMware Plugins

Since the release of VC2.5 and support for custom plug-ins, I have played around a lot with adding functionality in to the VI CLient and VC. I think plug’ins are a great idea. I have written and published an article over at www.xtravirt.com, detailing how to create a plug-in from scratch with a walkthrough to get the VMware View admin webpage displayed in VirtualCenter. I hope you find it useful.

Overview

The release of VMware vCenter 2.5 brought with it the ability to use plug-ins, together with a framework which allows the creation of custom plug-ins. This is in addition to Update Manager and VMware Converter which VMware had already produced for vCenter.

This Xtravirt white paper provides an introduction to VMware plug-ins, what they are and how to create them.

Key Concepts:

  • Introduction to VMware Plug-ins and what they are
  • Walkthrough on creating a plugin
  • What to do next
